    I came across Peter Blake one day at my school back in the mid 1980s. I was late for my next class. As i made my way down the corridor i took a short cut through a open area that was used as a cloak room. Peter was there chatting and smiling with the headmaster and another teacher. I instantly recognised him as being Kirk from Dear John. My wow moment however, was cut short by the headmaster turning his head to look at me. I turned around and fled lol The secondary school was and still is in Mansfield Woodhouse, notts

    The problem with ITV is, they never show these again because they never stop showing Midsomer Murders back-to-back and the same with Father Brown.

    I did love the running gag across several episodes in Dick Spanner when a woman's voice would say "Bizarre" out of nowhere. Dick would acknowledge it with a "Who said that?" and in a later episode "Who keeps saying that?".

    I think there's more to the story of Brannigans crisps being discontinued than KP are letting on. I've seen countless people saying that they were annoyed that they're no longer for sale, so it can't be simply that they were dropped due to a "fall in demand". My guess is that they were slowly killed off, and the fact that towards the end they were only available in certain shops is kind of proof of that. And I think the main reason is that the flavours were meat-based only, and KP probably wanted to avoid being labelled as not being vegan friendly.

    • @townsjim
      @townsjim 6 часов назад

      Also, when was the last time you saw a TV advert for Brannigans crisps? I can't remember either, so KP clearly didn't attempt to revive the brand like they have done for other products they own, like Hula Hoops and Discos.

    Dick Spanner was great. It evolved from an 80s commercial for Tennent’s Pils, loosely based around the Bonzo Dog Doo/Dah Band’s Chandleresque track ‘Big Shot’. The main character was Lou Tennent and was voiced by The Bonzo’s front-man Vivian Stanshall and was made by Anderson/Burr. The commercial went well enough for them to modify the character, change his name and make a series of shorts. I have vague memories of The Gaffer as a kid. It may be my memory playing tricks but I recall his car being driven down some steps. Chucky frightened the hell out of me as a kid so I stopped watching it!

    I remember Jane (so see-more-able) as a 14 year old boy. Also The Gaffer and Return to Treasure Island. I've only read Chocky. I don't think I watched any of the others but the Bernard Cribbens one sounds similar enough to several other cosy village dramas that have blurred together in my mind that it's possible.

    As a kid in the 70’s who felt as if I were off school ill so much, daytime TV was boring. I couldn't understand Crown Court. The Goodies was the best TV show ever as a young kid, while The Sweeney theme tune always signalled bedtime.
